Philadelphia employers need to fill more than 6,000 job openings in the next six months, according to a poll reported in the Philadelphia Business Journal. The bulk of the openings are healthcare jobs in Philadelphia and there are a number of finance jobs in Philadelphia with companies like Wells Fargo, PNC Bank, and TD Banknorth, said the PBJ.
Many colleges and universities are also hiring research positions including the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University and Drexel University. Additionally, there are some openings in Philadelphia, PA pharmaceutical and biotech jobs from some of the areas large employers in the industry, including Merck and Johnson & Johnson.
Health-care jobs definitely stood out among the others, with more than 3,500 jobs available. Jefferson Health System had the largest number of openings at 922. Catholic Health East has 500 jobs, while Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has another 446 — thanks in part to federal stimulus research dollars. As you can imagine, those research-related jobs call for pretty specialized training.
While the jobs that are open vary, there appears to be a need for nurses and nursing support staff, both clinical and nonclinical jobs and information technology. Physical therapists and pharmacy technicians also are in demand.
